WILDLIFE ADVENTURE FROM DAR ES SALAAM

3-Day Mikumi Wildlife Escape

Just a 5-hour drive from Dar es Salaam, Mikumi National Park offers an accessible yet authentic safari experience in Tanzania's fourth largest national park. Often called "Little Serengeti" for its similar landscapes and wildlife, Mikumi features vast open plains, acacia woodlands, and the Mkata floodplain which attracts impressive concentrations of animals.

This compact 3-day itinerary is perfect for travelers based in Dar es Salaam who want a real safari experience without the long journey to northern parks. Expect to see lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and abundant birdlife against the dramatic backdrop of the Udzungwa and Uluguru Mountains.

Mikumi National Park Wildlife

Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

Morning departure from Dar es Salaam (exact time advised upon booking) for the scenic drive to Mikumi. The route takes us through Tanzania's countryside with stops at local villages. Arrive at your lodge by early afternoon with time to refresh before your first game drive.

Late afternoon game drive explores the Mkata floodplain, the park's wildlife hotspot. This is prime time to spot lions waking from their daytime rest and herbivores coming to drink. Return to the lodge as the sun sets over the savannah, with dinner and overnight at your selected accommodation.

Day 2: Full Day Mikumi Exploration

Full day of game drives with packed lunch allows maximum time in the park. Morning drive focuses on predator activity around the Mkata River area where lions often hunt. Search for Mikumi's famous tree-climbing lions in the acacia woodlands.

Afternoon explores different ecosystems including the miombo woodlands and mountain foothills where lesser kudu and sable antelope may be spotted. Sunset drive back to lodge with chances to see nocturnal species beginning their night activities.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive & Return to Dar

Early morning game drive catches wildlife at their most active time. Visit the hippo pools where crocodiles bask on the banks and hundreds of birds gather. Search for any species you haven't yet seen before returning to the lodge for breakfast.

After breakfast, begin the return journey to Dar es Salaam with arrival in the late afternoon. End of services upon arrival in the city.
